Lesson 4: Dating Violence and Harassment

Students will:

  • define the term sexual harassment

  • identify examples of sexual harassment

  • identify the differences between flirting and sexual harassment

  • develop an understanding of the consequences of using social media

  • develop an understanding of the consequences of sexting

  • develop a repertoire of responses to sexual harassment

  • understand dating violence

  • understand how to seek help for dating violence and harassment

  • develop and Individual Bill of Rights

This lesson will cover topics such as prevalence of harassment, sexting, forms of harassment, flirting vs harassment and social media use, and ways of confronting harassment.
There will be times where you will need to pause the video to have a group discussion or pause for the students to work on the worksheets.
Please facilitate these activities and respond to your student’s questions or concerns. It is okay if you do not feel comfortable answering some of their questions, but you could always reach out to our Counseling Team for assistance.
Things to know:
Activity 1: How do you use Social Media?-After students complete the worksheet have them share examples of the benefits of social media and problems that can result from each site or app.-List them on the board for all to see-Brainstorm ideas to prevent the problems from occurring-Ask students to consider whether the accessibility of the information they share is private, public, and/or permanent.
